Mexico: Medical Relief in the Wake of Hurricane Otis

When Hurricane Otis struck Acapulco, Mexico, families struggled with sickness and loss. In the aftermath of this devastating Category 5 storm, Operation Blessing sent a medical brigade to assist survivors with their medical needs.

One survivor, Rosa, was pregnant with her sixth child. The storm blew the roof off her home, forcing Rosa to sleep in damp conditions. Our medical team provided treatment and an ultrasound to ensure her baby was healthy, putting Rosa’s mind at ease.

After the hurricane, Laura’s two daughters, Mikeyla and Itzy, developed respiratory issues. Thanks to the support of our donors, Operation Blessing was able to provide them with medical care and essential medication. Laura expressed that our team brought her great relief and renewed the hope of many families in her community who lacked resources to care for their children.

José Luis lost his home in the storm and developed respiratory problems due to extreme temperature changes. Our medical team treated him and provided diabetes medication for his father. His mother, Azucena, shared that they had searched everywhere but could not find the help they desperately needed until we arrived.

Mexico: Brightening Tomorrows in Chiapas

In the Chiapas region of Mexico, extreme poverty once limited access to healthcare. Operation Blessing’s mobile medical clinics brought medical care to remote communities, ensuring families received the treatment they desperately needed.

One woman, Guadalupe, was pregnant and didn’t have access to an ultrasound. Our mobile clinic confirmed her baby was healthy. She told us that knowing she was in good health brought relief.

But mobile medical clinics do more than just ultrasound. They help diagnose and treat a number of health problems. Mili (pictured below) was a child who once suffered from gallstones. Her life was immeasurably better after she received treatment. Another child named Lia suffered from a painful hernia. She received help through life-changing surgery, provided by our compassionate supporters.

Nigeria: Delivering Medical Care to the Mbak Ekpe Community

Our medical team traveled 12 hours through difficult conditions to bring much-needed healthcare to the remote Nigerian village of Mbak Ekpe.

Using BackpackEMR technology, we streamlined patient records and provided specialized medical care to those who needed it most. Essential medications were distributed to those in need, while patients with vision issues, including glaucoma and myopia, received eye exams and glasses. In addition, dental extractions and cleanings helped restore oral health to the community.

Over four days, we treated 378 patients. A grateful resident expressed that many people had been suffering from various diseases and that receiving such assistance during difficult times was truly meaningful.

Turkey: Mobile Medical Clinics Bring Relief

A devastating earthquake in Turkey destroyed hospitals, leaving many without much-needed medical care. With the support of friends like you, Operation Blessing quickly deployed a mobile medical clinic to provide emergency relief.

One survivor, Gamze, was quickly forced out of her home when the earthquake started. She had no home, no clothes, and sadly, no shoes. She had to walk barefoot on debris and sustained painful injuries. In the midst of a desperate situation, our mobile clinic was a beacon of hope for Gamze and many others like her, as we provided free treatment to Turkey earthquake victims.

Haiti: Fighting Cervical Cancer

Forty-year-old Sinfanie lived in one of the poorest areas in Haiti. She had never been screened for cervical cancer in Haiti. This type of service was just not available where she lived. Women like Sinfanie had to travel to the city—a trip that’s too far and too costly—to have important diagnostic tests done at private facilities, which often included expensive fees.

When Operation Blessing offered a screening in a town nearby, Sinfanie was one of the first in line. Her test result was positive for a precancerous infection. If left untreated, it could turn into full-fledged cancer. Doctors were available to offer her the consultations and treatment she needed, free of charge thanks to our caring donors. Early detection through preventative screenings helped save Sinfanie from a potentially deadly disease.

Peru: Establishing a New Health Facility

For residents of San Jeronimo de Ullagachi, access to medical care was extremely limited. Thanks to our donors, Operation Blessing was able to build a new health facility, bringing essential medical services closer to families in need.

As a young mother, Digna had to travel long distances for healthcare. When she was sick, she had to walk for hours to get to the nearest medical center. Often, she arrived feeling worse. Now, her community has access to local medical care. With this new facility, families can receive the care they need without enduring long and difficult journeys.
