Hurricane Melissa has quickly strengthened into a Category 5 storm, threatening Jamaica with catastrophic flooding, landslides, and destruction. With the potential of up to 40 inches of rain, 13 feet of storm surge and 160 mph sustained winds, mandatory evacuation orders have been issued for vulnerable coastal areas. Operation Blessing’s Global Disaster Relief Team is preparing to deploy as soon as conditions allow, coordinating with local contacts and readying vital supplies to meet urgent needs. In just three days, Hurricane Melissa has strengthened to a category 5 Storm, now being recorded as the strongest storm in the world this year. With winds upward of 160 mph, residents may likely face complete destruction of their homes and businesses. In anticipation of the strongest hurricane to hit the island since 1851, mandatory evacuation orders have been issued for vulnerable coastal areas.
