World Water Day 2026 | You Can Make the Dream of Clean Water a Reality in Huno Sihareo

please give clean water for World Water Day 2026 to help kids like Hasrat

What would you do without clean water?

In Huno Sihareo, Indonesia, every day begins with the struggle for water. Rain may fall, but without a safe way to capture, filter, and protect it from contamination, families are left with water that might not last—and often carries bacteria and illness.  And when the rains stop, they trek through rugged terrain for water that still isn’t safe.

Nearly 80% of the population in Indonesia relies on unsafe water sources, putting families’ health at risk every day.  And for parents like Sediati, the heartache of not knowing whether there will be enough clean water for their children never fully goes away. But you can make a difference.

This World Water Day, we are working together with compassionate friends like you to install clean water systems for 60 homes, providing the life-changing gift of clean water for 500 people. That’s only about $160 each person!

Will our water make us sick today?

Sediati searches daily for water, that still might make her family sick.

For Sediati and her son Hasrat, that question shapes everything. Water must be collected when it rains and rationed when it doesn’t. And even when it is available, it’s not safe to drink.

“I feel very sad. I sometimes cry. I know this water isn’t good for my family, but I have to take it. It smells bad, and sometimes it makes us sick,” Sediati said.

Without proper filtration and storage, they have no protection from bacteria and contaminants in the water they drink and use to cook. That means waterborne illness becomes a real and constant risk. Sediati prays that someday, her family will have safe water.

For children like Hasrat, lack of water determines how the day begins, how far he walks, how much he carries, and how much energy is spent before school even starts. He said, “When my mom asks me to help get the water, sometimes I don’t want to go because it is very hard to get there and we run into snakes.”

Huno Sihareo, home to many minority Christian families in this primarily Muslim nation, sits on Nias Island. The geographic isolation and limited infrastructure mean families have few alternatives when water runs low or proves dangerous.

Water scarcity doesn’t just create inconvenience; it’s a daily threat to these precious families. This World Water Day, with the help of generous friends like you, we’re working to provide rainwater harvesting systems for 60 homes in Huno Sihareo. This will help 500 people to thrive, bringing smiles to their faces and hope to their hearts.

Families shouldn’t have to begin each day with fear of sickness from drinking water.

This World Water Day, we are installing rainwater harvesting systems for 60 homes in Huno Sihareo.

Each rainwater harvesting system captures rainfall from rooftops, routes it through gutters and piping into a 528-gallon storage tank, and includes filtration with chlorine dosing to ensure the water is clean and safe for families to drink and use.

Your generosity will also help establish and train a community water committee to maintain the systems long-term. Each family will contribute a small monthly fee, creating local ownership and sustainability for years to come. Through WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) training, families will also gain life-saving education about disease prevention and safe water practices.

Instead of wondering when the next rain comes, families will have water stored and ready when they need it most.

This project will serve approximately 500 people, including:

  • 60 families across the community
  • 14 children attending preschool
  • 40 children enrolled in the after-school program

That’s a mere $160 per person for water that will last long into the future.

While many families are connected to the church community, the water systems will extend beyond church households to serve the broader village.

With a Rainwater Harvesting System in place, families will:

  • Spend less time searching for water
  • Have stored, protected water during dry seasons
  • Drink filtered water that helps prevent waterborne disease
  • Reduce exposure to bacteria and contamination
  • Experience greater stability and dignity at home

World Water Day is an opportunity to stand with this community, answering their prayers with practical, life-changing clean water.

If funds raised exceed the amount needed for this project, additional gifts will be used to provide clean water solutions for other families and communities in need around the world.
